First time for everything.
I just rode a segway for the first time. I have to admit, it was pretty fun.

Josh needs a vacation
Haven't decided between Dallas, San Antonio, or Atlanta, but I need to get away soon.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Cornbread’s is dead

This is the northwest corner of Gessner and I-10, as of today.
Once, many years ago, there was a run down pool hall here by the name of Cornbread's. This was a magical place where the food was bad, the same awful eight songs came out of the jukebox, the service was lousy, the tables were unbalanced, and (most importantly) they would serve alcohol to high school kids.
The smoking ban in the city of Houston all but put an end to this place, but someone decided to finish the deed by leveling the entire strip center.
Cornbread's, you will be missed.

Prayer to the appliance gods
Oh please, great and mighty gods of the appliances, please let your home depot disciples on earth deliver my new washer and dryer on time and without incident.
And for the link of the day, I give you the bacon crafted assault rifle:
I’m not sure why I find this so strange.
I recently bought a desk from a listing I found on Craigslist, which has been in the news lately over its supposed 'adult services' listings.
At any rate, I found the following listing there in the farm and garden section of the classifieds:
http://houston.craigslist.org/grd/1169875901.html
It's a listing for a HORSE. Someone is selling their 10-year old horse for $1500. Somehow, that just seems wrong to me.
I guess in the light of the recent news stories, this listing doesn't quite stand out as much, but still...

Commute problems
This is my normal route home everyday from the office:
As you can see, HWY 6 represents a significant portion of the trip.
Pictures are available in a previous post of the flooding that has occurred in the area. HWY 6 is completely closed between Clay rd and I-10, making the entire area a parking lot during high traffic time periods.
Flooding pics
Here are a few pictures of some of the flooding occurring on the west side of Houston.
This is causing my commute to be rather painful, and it really stinks that it happened the very first week I am in my new house.
I am thinking of getting a blow mattress and moving back to my old crappy apartment.
House searching is not very much fun
I thought I would have a good time looking for a house. I was wrong.
Here is one good candidate:
And another house I looked at:
The truth is, though, I am just tired of looking already. I have seen over a dozen houses, more than half of which were barely suitable to sustain human life. A couple other houses were good, but in bad areas or neighborhoods. The houses listed above are about all there is to the list.
Ok, maybe this one would work, but I havent seen it yet:

This evening
So, I am going to leave the office and try and find a way to kill a couple hours before I meet some friends at Taste of Texas.
I should get my car washed, but the only good place to do that is way down by Mike's place.
Anyways, I hope the week is treating everyone well. Personally, I am already exhausted and ready for the weekend to get here.
I might go take a look at this house tomorrow. What do you think?
UPDATE (5/1/08) I got my car washed at Mr. Car Wash, and they didnt bother to get the bird shit of my window. What a crock!
