First time for everything.
I just rode a segway for the first time. I have to admit, it was pretty fun.

Music, Steak Dinners, and Downtown Houston
I took a trip to downtown Houston this weekend, in order to catch my friend's band Black Queen Speaks Friday night. I managed to catch the show, grab a steak dinner, and get a massage at the hotel spa. Not a bad way to start a three day weekend.
Poker night, once again
Heading over to Mike's place for another poker night. Hopefully my practicing on Bodog will pay off.
Pocket cowboys, here I come.

Harvest Moon Regata
A friend of mine is racing in this year's Harvest Moon Regata. Here is a link to the live map of the race:

Everyone root for Zanzibar, whose passengers include two red-headed guys probably just baking in the October Texas sun!

Back 2 School
Officially a college student again, as I just received word I have been accepted to UHD.
There was a time when I would have absolutely refused to believe I'd enroll in college again, but here I am. Never say never, I guess.
So, the next stop will be to get one of those sweet student discount cards. Paying full price is for suckers.

Picture Day – Sept 2010
Cornbread’s is dead

This is the northwest corner of Gessner and I-10, as of today.
Once, many years ago, there was a run down pool hall here by the name of Cornbread's. This was a magical place where the food was bad, the same awful eight songs came out of the jukebox, the service was lousy, the tables were unbalanced, and (most importantly) they would serve alcohol to high school kids.
The smoking ban in the city of Houston all but put an end to this place, but someone decided to finish the deed by leveling the entire strip center.
Cornbread's, you will be missed.

Outlet store madness

Shopping. I hate shopping.but the outlet stores make it damn easy. 290, past mason.everything must go!
Pic, Advice of the day.
I have tried several different methods with this girl (everything except the one with the puppy), but so far the above information doesn't seem to be working.
Maybe I will try a singing telegram next.
Strange Things
Today, during lunch, I had to run a few errands. Actually, I just needed to go to the bank, but that turned into bank, hardware store, pharmacy, and a stop at jack-in-the-box (I'm getting really tired of microwave panini's for lunch).
At any rate, I have always had an unusual aversion to the practice of making strange aftermarket changes to low end cars. It just seems odd to me. I saw this car pull up to the parking lot while I was in the drive-thru:
Someone put Lambo-style doors on a late model Toyota Celica. Weirdo.
Also, I have discovered a few things about having a yard:
- In Houston, during the summer, if you don't water your grass, it will die.
- People expect you to water your grass.
- If you are not careful, a hose and sprinkler setup from Ace Hardware can cost as much as a very nice dinner for 4.
Apparently people go to Ace hardware during the lunch hour to complain. The people working there are very helpful, but that doesn't appear to matter to the shoppers at this hour. They are going to be offended no matter how hard you try. So, when you try and fail, the rule to learn is: never try (Courtesy of Homer Simpson, who can now be the voice on your GPS system)
Commute problems
This is my normal route home everyday from the office:
As you can see, HWY 6 represents a significant portion of the trip.
Pictures are available in a previous post of the flooding that has occurred in the area. HWY 6 is completely closed between Clay rd and I-10, making the entire area a parking lot during high traffic time periods.
Flooding pics
Here are a few pictures of some of the flooding occurring on the west side of Houston.
This is causing my commute to be rather painful, and it really stinks that it happened the very first week I am in my new house.
I am thinking of getting a blow mattress and moving back to my old crappy apartment.
